Im planning on buying a new Fender, and I am stuck between a Jaguar and a Jazzmaster. I play mostly blues and rock.
Anyone out there who can help me out with this?
Most of you guys are going to say that I should try them out, but in Norway, it can be quite difficult to find those two guitars at the same shop!
So if anyone out there can give me a "review" Id be most grateful!

xoxo E.

I prefer the JazzMaster because of the single coil pickups. Great tone and beautiful guitar. Good luck! :D

I tested both guitars, and they both have their merits. I ultimately chose the Classic Players Jazzmaster Special for the following two reasons:

1. The 25.5" scale is the same as that of the Stratocaster, so it's easy for me to go from one to the other without adjusting the way I play. The shorter scale of the Jaguar (24" I believe) is comfortable, but I think I would find it difficult to switch between it and the Strat.

2. I found the tone of the Jazzmaster to be a bit melllower than that of the Jaguar. The neck pickup in particular is buttery smooth. However, the neck pickup is very hot and distorts nicely for rock and even punk. I find it a very versatile tone machine.

I hope this helps. No matter which one you choose, I think you'll be pleased. Have fun! 8)

Yea, Im kinda leaning to the Jazzmaster myself ;)
I have heard that the bridge is kinda crap on these guitars? Is this true?
And thanks for the summary you gave me :) Much appreciated!

That depends on which model you get. The American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster has the original Telecaster-style saddles. The tailpiece is also well below the bridge, causing a shallow break angle on the strings. This means the strings are prone to jumping out of their bridge slots if you strum too aggressively.

The Classic Players Jazzmaster Special corrects this flaw. This model has the Adjusto-Matic bridge, which is similar to the bridge on a Les Paul. The tailpiece is also closer to the bridge than on the AV62, creating a sharper break angle for the strings. This factor (plus the 9.5" fretboard radius) played a major role in my choosing this model over the AV62.

Yea, I read about that Adjusto-Matic bridge in a webshop somewhere!

Both are cool guitars, but I like the Jags.

From wiki -

"The Jaguar was based on the Jazzmaster, with the same, "offset waist" body and "floating tremolo" system. Unlike the Jazzmaster, the Jaguar was fitted with a shorter 24-inch scale, 22-fret neck (the first Fender guitar to have 22 frets) and featured smaller single-coil pickups with notched side plates that improved RF shielding, making the Jaguar less prone to interference than the more popular Stratocaster and Telecaster."

Is the Classic Player Jazmaster MIM or MIA?

It's made in Mexico. The other models are MIA. I bought my Classic Player Jazzmaster Special for $850 before the price hike. They're about $1100 now. The American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster is about $1900.

Yea, the MIM is about $1150 in Norway. If you want the MIA you have to pay almost $3000 if you want a brand new one. I think its sick..
