I just joined the ranks of Fender today and wanted to say hi. I have dabbled in guitar off and on since 1983. I decided to get serious and learn more than just a few riffs. I started in Jan with an Ibanez Jampack. And today I bought an 04 Mex Strat. Agave Blue.

My tip. (forgive me if this is a common tip)

I was having a hard time playing Barre Chords. I could not get my index finger to hold the note and / or couldn't get my other fingers to go in the right spot .....So I put my capo on the fret where my index finger was supposed to be and just put my index finger over the capo. after about a week I was able to place my other fingers with no problem. a week and a half later ABRA-CADABRA I could play barre chords.

Like I said forgive me if this is an old trick. I had not heard of it before, but it helped me train my fingers to play barre chords asap.

I have played for many years and never heard of that technique.
If you want a regergitated technique for building finger strength then try playing an acoustic for a while and then go back to an electric, its like butter...

Welcome to the forum…I love that you came up with a trick to help you learn, that’s soo cool……..I am wondering where you were placing your Bar finger while the capo was in place.. I think that trick would just confuse me in that it would not train my index finger of where to go……once again welcome to the Fender family and have a great time in the forums…there is a 100 life times of good information in here…

Actually I just place my index finger right over the capo and exert slight pressure as if I were using my finger to Barre. It is enough to give you muscle memory but not enough to throw the other fingers off.

Welcome to the Forum! I have never heard that idea with the capo before. Also I agree with forum member bss if you play the acoustic you will gain finger strength for sure.

Welcome to the forums. I've been playing (on and off) since 1967 but I'd never heard your idea. Very clever!
