I have an Ibanez Tube Screamer, the basic TS8... or 9, and although I like it, it is a great pedal which I'm sure many of you agree, it's a bit weak. It's great for blues and classic rock sounds, but not quite edgy enough. A local pawn shop has a Boss DS1 for $20. I was thinking about getting, one, but while looking at them online, they seem to have the same controls as the Tube Screamer. Does anyone have one, or any experience with the DS1 as opposed to the TS8/9? I'd really like to know if the DS1 is "heavier" than the Ibanez, or if they're essentially the same. Thanks g's.

Check this site out about Ibanez mods. I can't speak for the Boss but I know and own some good Boss pedals. I got my TS modded here.

Aw, stupid websense blocked it, I'll have to check it out at home. Thanks again though. How much of a difference do the mods make? Is it more versatile?

There are a lot of mods to choose from and sound clips ,I think. I had the original JRC chip put in mine like the older original tube screamers had in them. JRC stands for the Japanese Radio Corp. You'll just have to check it all out and see. I am happy with mine. Like I said though Boss makes some good pedals and his modded Ibanez ts are not cheap so...... :?:

Yea, the $20, seems like it wouldn't really be wasted.

For $20 pck it up if it works. If you don't like it sell it for $20.

Yea, that's kind of what I was thinking. Luckily, they have 2 of them. :)

I'd say the DS-1 for $20 is a good deal as long as the pedal in question is in working order of course.

The Boss DS-1 is definately much better if you want to play metal.

It is a very versatile pedal. You can do anything from light crunch to full on scream.

The Boss is good for a non-tube distortion device. If you really wanna make some noise try an overdrive with a tube or two in it.

DS-1 is a distortion, so its has a bit more grit than a Tubescreamer, which is an overdrive...
