I'm thinking of moth-balling the vg since it doesn't get played right now.

What is the best way to store it in its case? Vertical or flat? Should I loosen the strings? Any other things to consider?

Obviously batteries out of the pack. I'm thinking of storing it for at minium a few months if not longer. Or unitl the itch comes back.

Thanks for the help!

For a few months, just put it in its case, tuned to pitch, and leave it, flat or upright. No harm will come to it.

Hi MrJinx, good thread title!

Been reading about the 50th Anniversary Deluxe Forum user Nikininja has just picked up. It has been stored and has corrosion on some of the metal parts.

So if I were you I'd want to toss into the case a handful of those little silica gel bags you find in packaging of electrical gear to soak up any moisture - unless the climate is bone dry where you live. Within which case the opposite measure might be appropriate!

Personally, I'd loosen but not remove the strings and loosen the trussrod a quarter turn: assuming the guitar's to be left for months or even years. I'd store it flat, but I doubt that matters much.

Finding a place to keep it where the temperature won't change is the most important. Under a bed is usually good - not in a basement or badly insulated attic and not near a radiator or airconditioner!

Cheers - C
