I'm getting to the age where I have to start thinking about college and stuff, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for good colleges for music in Texas (or elsewhere) for me to look into. I want to get into jazz, and I to preform, not really teach. Music theory is sort of like math to me (I don't like math), but I'd rather go to college and learn that then learn something I'm completely disinterested in.

I was thinking that UT may be a good idea, simply because it's in Austin. Or Texas Tech, simply because that's where my parents went. I know I don't want to go to A&M, from what I've learned about it it doesn't seem very musically oriented. Then there's U of H, I've heard good things about the music program they have there. But it's in Houston, and since I've lived here all my life I really want to get out and move somewhere different.

Check out NAU's jazz program. Great people, great music, and Flagstaff is a really nice place. I went there and still go back for the jazz festivel.

I am just as interested in this topic, as music is in my top three choices of things to study in college, even if it is quite far off.
