I heard alot about Jeff Beck on the forum and I have never really listened to him before. I would like to check out some of his stuff but I hear he's pretty eclectic.
Where is a good place to start?
Any other musical suggestions would be great. I used to manage a CD store, but the age of downloads forced it out of business and I am out of the loop for music. I'm listening to the same stuff I was listening to a few years ago.
I am mostly into blues based rock, funnk and reggae. Everything I listen to seems to be from 20-40 years ago.

If you really want to learn about Jeff Beck, I'd suggest starting out with his book, Crazy Fingers, which is loaded with the whens and hows and whys.

For listening, I'd go all the way back to the Rod Stewart band era (I Ain't Supersitious/Rock Me Baby/etc) then progress into the Jeff Beck Group which had 2 CDs with monster sidemen (he always seemed to get the best), then BBA with Carmen Appice and Tim Bogert from Cactus and Vanilla Fudge has some great moments (I'm So Proud/Don't Wanna Live Alone) and finally Blow By Blow, Wired, the Jan Hammer 'live" sessions and finally "live" at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club.

You will hear a very different and unique technique on each recording and as he says in his book, his first influence was Cliff Gallup, the guitarist who was "really out there".

You Tube is a great place to start. There are MANY Jeff Beck videos out there.

Then you can try some of the bootleg blog sites and download some live shows. Then you can buy some CDs. And then buy some more.

Pretty soon you'll have a Jeff Beck Signature Strat and be playing Freeway Jam like a pro.

I personally like the song "Cause We've Ended As Lovers."
You can feel the sadness in his guitar playing.

I've got a Jeff Beck strat and I can tell you they have a great mid-range, put enough drive on and man! superb sound.
I was using it this morning and they really are fantastic fun.
So, just in case you get heavy into Jeff and you think about the guitar.
Yes!! buy one, they have a great sound. 8)
