+1

Ill tell ya why, because he is a bada$$!!! I have went and seen them in concert the past 2 years, awesome shows! Billy G makes everything look so effortless and simple!! You leave their show a better guitar player, weird, but totally true!! If you havent seen them, GO!

Brian May by a longshot man.

His way of the guitar just inspired me to play and the sound is AWESOME! All I need to say is listen to Bohemian Rhapsody or Killer Queen and We will Rock you.

I'm also inspired by Brian May. I have a concert DVD of QUEEN, but I can't seem to tell what kind of guitar he uses. Does anyone know?

You mean in the concert?
Cause he also has a Custom guitar named "Red Special" and that is his signature guitar.

John Frusciante. Though he didn't inspire me to play guitar (though he would have if I would have heard of him when I was 9) he is the greatest influence by far on my playing and my thinking and respect for music and the guitar in general. He is not only the greatest guitar player, but the greatest person with the most beautiful mind since Jesus Christ himself. Sorry to all non-believers in Jesus or Frusciante.

Rory Gallagher for many reasons

He was Completely original, I don’t know anyone who can play quite like him.
Not a shredder, he played notes because they were required, not because there was empty space to fill.
He was Irish!!!
His songs just make me wana play guitar.
He was as modest as they come.
He didn’t resort to narcotics to help him write songs.
He performed the most energy filled shows, and all that got him high was the thrill of playing the blues to his fans ( and a few whiskey!)

It's hard to pick just one. There are so many awesome players. Even though he's dead, I've got to go with Stevie Ray Vaughn.

This comes as a surprise to many people, but Leo was not a guitar player, or a musician of any kind.

edward van halen all the way. why febuary 10th 1978
he turn the the guitar world upside down. no one dead or
alive could play/sound or match his ability listen to the first
and second albums 1978 and 1979 no one could even come
close to playing like him. he totaly changed the way we play
and sound. and now over 31 years later and at the age of 54
he still make makes my big toe shoot up in my boot. he's
a total guitar/musician genius. hes changed the guitar playing world forever
and thank god we have him.

Slash inspired me to pick up the guitar and is probably my favorite even though he plays Gibson. My favorite Strat players are SRV and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Well, That is as hard of question as it gets. If I had to sift through all my favorite guitarists, I would say my favorite deceased player is SRV. My favorite acoustic guy is Monty Montgomery, and my Favorite living guitarists, plus I am in love with his tone, Is Eric Johnson. Eric is so unique. He follows the beat of his own drum, and yet still amazes everyone.
