Larry Carlton.

First of all, there is his instantly-recognizable phrasing, which is inventive, soulful and vocal-esque. He has all the musical theory that a jazz cat could want, and he can play way outside when he wants to, but he rarely does, preferring (as another of my favorites, Oscar Peterson) to remain well-rooted in the blues, which gives even his most adventurous playing a solid and accessible foundation. His technique is fully-realized: I can't imagine there's much he can think and not do.

But above all, there is, in virtually everything Larry Carlton plays, a joyful quality - an expression of the pure happiness of making music at a high level - that just freakin' feels good. You know you're in the presence of a musician who truly loves music... not his image of himself, not "playing guitar," not fame or applause, but who just loves music.

For all those reasons, I'd rather listen to Larry Carlton play the guitar than virtually anyone who has ever picked one up. He is far and way my fave.

It's tied between Django and Harrison.

Jeff Beck

He is still reaching and experimenting with new ideas to achieve a variety of tones and sounds and his technique is top shelf. 8)

Brian May by a longshot man.

His way of the guitar just inspired me to play and the sound is AWESOME! All I need to say is listen to Bohemian Rhapsody or Killer Queen and We will Rock you.

Tone for days.....Raw emotion dripping with blues………..SRV type style brought into the 21 century….not afraid to rock out the cover tunes at the end of a live set (and rock them out) :D :D :D

Izzy Stradlin...from Appetite For Destruction through to Concrete.

I've yet to hear a more block solid rhythm player, his solo work is unbelievable and he compliments Slash and Rick Richards perfectly.

His choppy attack sounds so much like hes just loosing it but its perfect.

Love him!!

SRV because he introduced me to blues and even jazz when all I had been listening to prior to that had been 95% metal, hardcore and emo and 5% classic rock. Plus I've learned more from just watching DVDs and listening to his music than I have from any other guitarist.

Robbie Robertson of The Band

Why?: My brother got a dvd for Christmas one year. That DVD was The Last Waltz. I was instantly in love. I know cite Robertson as my #1 influence on the guitar.

Why - My big brother came home with the tape/record and I heard him play for the first time and I wanted to play just like him and EVH is why I picked up and learned to play the guitar..

I'm also inspired by Brian May. I have a concert DVD of QUEEN, but I can't seem to tell what kind of guitar he uses. Does anyone know?
