I second that notion.
Jefferson Airplane, anyone?

Alternative rock; classic rock; blues.

And once in a while, a bit of heavy metal!

Actually, i can listen to virtually anything as long as it's good.

like some absolutely brutal bands with electronic drumsets, because feet can't go fast enough for them.

and then i like stuff like Johnny Cash.

Why should one have a favourite, when one has two hands, six strings, 20-something frets, and a legacy of jazz, folk, blues, surk, rock, folk rock, lounge...and more beckoning?

Blue Blues - BB King, Buddy Guy, SRV, Eric Clapton many others, listening and playing

Blues-rock - just blues again really from many many artists, listening and playing

Jazz - mainly listening although some jazz does creep into my playing through BB King who sometimes played jazz chords and riffs, read and wrote music notation like a jazz artist

Alt-rock - listening only the mid-1990s were another golden age with STP, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam and many others doing great stuff. Mainly simple songs but cool like "Plush" which I do play ever now and zen.

Depending on my mood, mostly Blues or black gospel (as opposed to white southern gospel.)

But I also enjoy varieties of rock, classical (guitar, orchestras--smaller ensembles), and even sometimes--jazz--maybe I'm getting old.
I also enjoy old hymns (especially 1700's and earlier)

It depends on my mood. I might listen to Jazz on the way to work then listen to Blues or Southern Rock on the way home. Or...

I appreciate any and all music just about, although me and Opera have always been on a shaky footing... and R&B makes me want to stab my eardrums out with something blunt.

What gets me excited though, is the fusion of Jazz and Metal, like early Incubus, for example, or Primus. In this vein I've just discovered Jeff Kollman today. I am disappointed that I have not known of this man's awesomeness until now!

Whatever =

The Clash (is that a genre?)

It really is not possible to lump them in anywhere because they were all over the musical map.
