I would rather meet them and have them check out my guitar, possibly sign the inside of the backplate. I'd be fine with just them playing it though.

It would make a cool story and if some moron says the guitar is crap you could always say something like "Well, I like it and Eric Clapton liked it a lot, so maybe you're not using it right or something... You do know it is a guitar, right?"

:P

To continue 'having the vibe', 'would graciously take the guitar (one of Bob Bogle's Jazzmasters or Jerry McGee's Strats).

This is a tough one... I would have to go with meet, though. A guitar, no matter how sentimental or special, is just a guitar. A person, however, can give you advice that might help you and give you inspiration to do something great!

Definitely the guitar. The get together would last just a bit of time, but the guitar would be there for a long time. An example is my Blues DeVille...some thumbnails.

It was owned and played by Brad Whitford of Aerosmith and an ebay bargain at $750 shipped

Very cool indeed 8) I agree...I think I'd choose the guitar. You may never get their sound but what a vibe while you play even it is used as a display in your practice room!

You make a very good point also, but the advice given would also depend on the time spent with them (though it's always fun to meet someone you admire.)

If you had the choice between meeting your favorite guitarist or owning one of their played guitars...which would you choose? 8)

Well, one of my favorites is Pete Townshend and I did meet him backstage after a show once, sometime in '80 or '81 I think. I was quite young and asked him a very tactless question about his drink and drug intake, which was fairly notable at the time. He shut the door in my face.

I learned some important things from that encounter.

Having met him, however briefly, I think now I'll take his guitar. Please.

Cheers - C

If I met one of my favorite guitarists, I'd probably just set a spell and jam or something. As for the guitar part, I prefer to have an instrument to call all my own, not someone else's. :)

Hmm tough choice but the guitarist definitly. Im proud with my guitars and on the other hand you can have them sign your guitar and maybe a lesson on the way  .

It would depend if they were alive or dead. I've been fortunate to meet one of them and that was quite memorable.

The guitar. Unless Jesus was shredding back in the day and I never heard about it.

Charlie Christian -- who bridged the gap between traditional black "blues based" music and jazz. He was a strong influence not just on other guitarists (and there are many who cite him) but on instrumentalists in general. He's credited with having a strong influence on the evolution of bebop.

He played in a number of Benny Goodman's groups and crossed the color gap into mainstream white music. (Benny gets a lot of credit there too.) He was a major influence in the guitar being viewed as more than just for "blues" soloing or in the rhythm section. He was one of the first to use an electric guitar in mainstream music and to have significant soloing opportunities.
