Several days ago while playing out, I was separated from my amp rig playing on the other side of the stage.. I noticed my rig sounded way different.. I was hearing way more mids and the over all tone was smoother and creamier, the over all blown out treble that usually leaves my ears ringing for days was absent…when I moved back in front of the amps it was back… For the last few days I have been playing with different materials placed in front of the amp cabs to act as a baffle. I don’t know what it is but I am digging the difference in sound and the increase of what I can really hear in my tone now.. I was wondering if any one else was using speaker / amp baffles out there and what you thought of the whole thing…………I did a search on the computer to see if there was anything made commercially or a how to of building such a thing and a preferred material….only thing I found was that Joe Banamassa uses a baffle as well out of Plexiglass. I never knew this but I guess it explains the creamy tone he gets…. Anyway what do you think about Amp baffles?...........any experiences, thoughts, opinions, or theories. Thanx Bill.. :D

here is what Joe's baffle looks like

Here is something you might be interested in. A Beam Blocker high frequency diffuser. I've never tried it, but I would be curious if anyone has any experience with it.

Thats almost the same thing SRV did with his amps only he used a whole lot of gaffa tape or something like that on the grill cloth....

Just tried a thin roofing type plywood material….not bad but it seems to absorb the sound more rather then direct it around….the experimenting will continue…..Bill ...... 8)

well the idea is to et the amp crancked so that you get the desired tone you want, the baffles are just there so that you don't kill your audience with a wall of sound.......
