I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to display my guitars? I usually have them in a stand in my music room for easy acess but was wondering if they should be hung on the wall or if they are fine in the stand. I can easily install some wall mounts if that is what I need to do. Thanks alot and play happy.

I think they are better off in the stand so long as no one knocks them over. I don't like hanging expensive guitars by the neck.

Hello Mae1806,

My guitar display is a pile of cases
nicely protecting contents within.

Stands seem dangerous, if you have
a dog, they have been known to
take a wiz on you prize axe.
The Fireplug syndrome.

On a wall theres less of a chance
of getting knocked about.

Send over a photo when you
complete your display.

Cheers.

Wall hangers look great, but I keep a few on stands and the a few in cases.

The guitar tech I go to says the best way is to keep guitars in their cases, particularly when they're not going to be used for a while. This keeps the dirt of of the pots and in a place like here in SoCal, you can also use one of those case humidifiers to counteract the dry air.

The ones I use frequently are in stands, but I have no kids or pets and no one who visits would ever be bringing either over. So I have no worries about a guitar being knocked over. I've never liked the idea of hanging a guitar by the neck either, though many do and I've never read about any problems associated with that.

One final thing: the rubber found on many guitar stands can mar your finish. I wrap felt around all my stands with rubber to prevent that but old socks or anything could be used. The key is just don't let the finish be in direct contact with the rubber.

I picked up one of the Warwick rockstands a few years ago, and that thing is great. Well, if you switch between guitars frequently or are in a band, they're totally worth it.

I put mine on a 7 guitar Rockstand as well. They dont have time to catch enough dust that they'd need to be put back in the case.

I've never liked the idea either to hang them by the neck. The OCD in me tells me that the weight of the body could put some unnecessary strain on the neck/body joint. That's probably a crazy thought.

All of mine are on the wall. Not only does it look good, I believe they are in the safest place they can be.

I uses stands and cases for the guitars I don't play as often. Stands and wall hangers are not as secure as a case, but they're convenient. Also stands can be yanked away by an errant strap or cord...Be careful.

I have both wall hangers and stands, all made by Hercules. You would be hard pushed to find a sturdier stand or wall mount, and the rubber holders are specially treated, so's not to damage the guitars finish. That said, my guitars are in their cases when not being used.

Yeah, I have thought about using the wall mounts but like some others have said, I wonder about the body weight pulling down on the neck and that puts me off the idea. But they hang them like that in shops for months on end, so I don't know. Can't make my mind up about these, I have them in racks at the moment.

I prefer the protection of a hard shell case. I can always look at them, when I play them.
