Parliament/Funkadelic are definitely high on my list but I also have to give it up for Sly & The Family Stone with songs like Family Affair and Thank You(Falettenme Be Mice Elf Agin). Pretty good stuff. :D

A combination of JB---->Sly----->P-Funk Mob. Too deep to put any title on, often imitated, but never duplicated. Fried Ice Cream is STILL a reality.

I've never been a huge fan of funk, but I'd say Tower of Power. Back in the mid/late 70's the band I was in used to do some of their stuff. Our lead singer was Emilio Castillo's cousin so we got to meet them once.

Don't forget about Kool and the Gang! Their '70s material (pre-"Celebration") is just about some of the funkiest stuff out there...

Be sure to check out the "Superbad" soundtrack if you're interested in a good funk primer. It's got a lot of classic tracks as well as some new songs that were written specifically for the movie.

sly and the family high octane funk, buddy miles had a band that was funky , ohio players would be right up there with the brothers johnson , earth wind and fire , the average white band was funky , the gap band , g you're right on with cameo , duke , cobham , clarke , commodores and kool many more , but why sly ? saw him and his family twice , when i went to see him at grant park there was a riot goin on , the two times they really were the best (my opinion).
