A music instrument store in Iceland are selling cheap electric guitars named Aria, and I was wondering if they are any good for first electric guitar (I mean they are very cheap).

And I was also wondering if Aria is somekind og cheap knockoffs of Fender. Those guitars I saw on the stores webside kind a look like Stratocasters.

They're not the worst guitars, in the US they're one of the many name brand guitars you can buy of decent quality.

Decent quality import brand from either Korea or Japan I think. They endorsed the late, great Cliff Burton, bassist for Metallica.

Around the turn of the '80s Aria were the happening thing as far as basses were concerned. All the funk-rock type players suddenly had to have an Aria, and they spread into other areas too: I'm sure I remember heavy metallers wielding Arias. And wasn't one of Sting's basses an Aria when he was in The Police?

For some reason the company failed to capitalise on it's success and seemed to fade back into being a cheap copy producer. Unlike Ibanez, which rose from similar origins.

I seem to recall that a year or two ago Aria launched a couple of re-issues of it's top end basses, but apart from that their catalog appears to be filled with copies. Mind you; good value for money - if only because they are so amazingly cheap!

Cheers - C

Hello NonniG,

I've played a few Aria's over the years
quality seems good for a recreational guitar
right on par with the Samick product.
Asian produced guitars have been improving
with the advent of CNC machining centers.

Decent Guitar + economically priced = Good time :D

Post a Photo if you make the purchase, if you please.

Cheers.

They make some pretty good guitars. If you look at my sig, you'll notice I've got an acoustic-electric. Also, if you don't want to take my word for it, Cliff Burton was endorsed by them. Supposedly, he liked to bang his around everywhere, and it held up very well. They've been around since 1956.

I have an Aria Les Paul Copy that was my first electric guitar. Great starter guitar. I picked it up used in an old music store in the Midwest back in 84 or 85. It sounds great, the quality is super. I have since changed the pickups to EMG’s and even had it airbrushed a few years ago…even know I have a lot of other guitars I am not afraid to use it and it still goes to gigs from time to time and rocks just as hard as any of my other guitars..not bad for 150.00 dollar investment and still rocking it out after 24 years. I have had other guitars (Top Brand names) that did not hold up half that long.. I say go for it, the price is low and you may just be surprised……Bill

Thanks for the replies. I'm still thinking this over, and I've been looking at the stores website ( http://www.hljodfaerahusid.is/ ) and looking at the prices and I think that the 50's strat might be on budget range.

They are selling the Arias from 21.900 ISK (172,05 US$)
The Fender 50's strat is 69.900 ISK (549,14 US$)
I´ve also seen:
Washburn 37.500 ISK (294,60 US$)
Fender HSS Strat RW BLK 59.900 ISK (470,58 US$)
Fender Strat MN AWT and Strat MN BSB for 55.900 (439,15 US$)

(I probaply have to mention that there is double currency rate in Iceland. The prices in dollars are compared with the Currency Rate from the Icelandic Central Bank. If you use the European Union Central Bank or US Federal Reserve currency rating the price in US dollars will be lower. So if you are travelling in Iceland use your credit card and save some money :D )

Any recommandations :?:

For those having a trouble with their grasp of Icelandic, the real Fenders and Aria versions thereof are to be viewed on this page:

http://www.hljodfaerahusid.is/is/mos/vi ... tGroup/54/

To my eye those Aria's are not cheap enough to justify it. Stick with the Fenders...

There is a Language option on the website top right corner. Pick the British flag for engilsh :D.

Updated: Tried the English version of that website and it only offered information on how to find Currency rates on the website of the Icelandic Central Bank :?

The Aria Guitar Company has a long history.

Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page and search on "aria (guitar company)" ...

I couldn't get the Aria page's URL to work as a link here! I think there a was a problem with the undercores or parentheses in the URL. I dunno, but it wasn't working right

My first guitar was the Aria Pro II Les Paul Cherry sunburst with Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups. It was like an Ace Frehley model without the 3rd pick up.This was over 20 years ago I got in Okinawa Japan.I don't know if they make them like they used to but its a great guitar.Malmsteen used the Aria flying V with Alcatraz on the Japan tour back in the day.
