The 63 Fender Reverb is a tube driven reverb tank, and is quite expensive.

The amps like the Hot Rods & Blues Deluxe have a spring reverb panin them and solid state circuits driving it. A spring reverb tank in these amps is maybe 20$.

Yes there are a lot of pedals that replicate the reverb sound, Boss makes a couple like the Boss RV-5and line-6 verbzillais not bad either

Aside from a Fender (or clone) spring reverb tank, you would be hard pressed to find anything better than Digitech's new Hardwire series RV7 reverb. It's loaded with Lexicon verbs.

Ah-ha!

Just been leafing through some back copies of Guitarist magazine and came across exactly this question about an outboard spring reverb in one of the Q&A sections. The suggestions the magazine had to make were, in order of preference:

Fender '63 Tube Reverb
Van Amps Sole-Mate
Danelectro Spring King
DigiTech Hardwire Stereo Reverb

Every one of those suggestions has already been given on this thread. So that saved the cost of a magazine subscription! One more reason for a daily dose of the Fender Forum!

BTW: though digital, they had good things to say about the DigiTech - which is the cheapest option of the lot...

Cheers - C

The little spring reverb tank in the Blues Junior is indeed a spring reverb, I have to defend the little gem of an amp. And it sounds much better than many of the solid state pedals.

I own the 63 reissue Reverb, and its a beauty. Without time travelling or a masterful boutique piece you cannot get better sound. THe reason it is so pricey is because its a tube head... it pushes the input signal thrugh the springs, collects the signal, boosts it and returns it back to the amp. Its my favorite expenditure... but I'm a wanna be surf guy.

My advice is save up and get a 63 Reverb. Its simply the only way to go for sweet reverb. It will be a lifetime piece in your colection.

Bitmo has a mod that will turn an Epiphone Valve Junior into a tube reverb unit...seems like a good price if you are handy with a soldering Iron.
