Hey guys,
Lately I've really that nice old spring reverb sound, but I don't have an amp that includes it. Is there any way I can buy an analog spring reverb unit separately, like you would buy an expression pedal? Thanks!

You're looking for this:

Pretty pricey, though.

yeah.... wow! how can they afford then to put reverb in an amp like the blues junior? I know they use a "reverb tank" or something like that. So i would probably have to build one from individual parts if I wanted to save money?

The blues junior doesn't have real spring reverb. Few amps do. Anyway, you're probably better off purchasing a high quality pedal like the EHX Holy Grail that emulates that spring sound.

Hi stratmastah: type "spring reverb pedal" into Google and you will get many options, from cheapo digital emulations to more glamorous items.

I just found this one - I have no prior knowledge of it at all, but it looks like it might be worth further investigation...

Or what about this:

Interesting.

And lots more to find...

When in doubt, ask the surf guys. :D

Gomez Amps builds a handwired PTP tank, for about the list price of a Fender tank.

Weber builds a kit based on the 63 RI tank, for around $400, IIRC. You get to do the soldering.

Heard mediocre reviews of the Little Lanelei. No experience on my end.

Danelectro makes the Spring King, which is a small spring reverb. Supposedly it sounds pretty good, and if you go to Surfguitar 101 there is a member there that has done some mods to make it sound even better.

If you like the spring sound, but don't need A) the drip and B) the crash....the Digitech Digiverb is supposedly one of the better solid state pedals. I know some surf guys keep one for backup in case their tank goes out.

I bought a behringer reverb pedal so i could ditch amp reverb. For £30 its ok its certainly quite dominant. I keep the level on mine at around 8oclock.

I should qualify that. That's coming from surf guys, who will tell you that NOTHING can even come remotely close to standing in for a reverb tank. Also, that's mediocre tone quality. Dunno about build quality.

I've got the holy grail and they are good.
They now do even super improved models, the holier grail and the holiest grail, great stuff but I bet you end up using the hall reverb. Much better, in my view. :D

Plus, they just updated the Holy Grail into a new die-cast shell only a week ago. As soon as it hits stores, I'm gonna go pick one up. I heard an online preview and it sounds great!

I found the Holy Grail's reception to be a little lukewarm when I was looking around the place... although I suspect that's because lukewarm is what you get when you average out love + hate -- users certainly feel strongly about it!

I ordered a Mr Springgy, as I was after a simple (one knob) analogue amp reverb replacement for my reverb-free Swart amp. The audio samples sound excellent to me, and it's very quiet. Takes a battery, too, which I like. I hope it doesn't disappoint when it makes its way over to Oz.
