My first electrics were Stratocasters, but I think Telecasters are fine instruments, too. In the USA, Strats rule. In the UK, Teles seem to have an edge in fashion. With all the plug-together gadgetry at the end of the guitar cable, the range of sounds today is incredible. In the 50's and 60's, the model of guitar was far more important because the range of amps was limited. Today, a first-week player can wail out sustains that last until NEXT week with lots of whammy action in between.

Stratocaster number one and telecaster a good second.
Depends on the style of music you're playing.
Because of the contoured body and 3 pickups the strat is my
favourite.

Gibsons in third place, Les Pauls and SG's.

depends on the song/music style. Strats for most rock, teles for country and soft rock.

StratmanSteve chooses Strats . . . but I like Teles, too. My Tele got all of my attention last night.

It's always been strats for me, although I'm currrently thinking about getting a telecaster. I'm itching for some serious twang (It's probably my roots coming out). I don't know much about tele's like I do strats. The 69 thinline has caught my eye, and now if I can only find one around here to try out. With the semi-hollowness of it, I'm just scared it might not have that twang I'm looking for.

I'm a tele guy, love the size and the simplicity. Clean through the Deluxe is awesome.

If your fast and for overall versitility: Strat.

Country or Folk or ALt Country: Tele. The tele neck width I find better for rythem leads. It has more 'working room' and 'slide space' for an elongated sound.

The Tele can be quickly be rewired for switch change configuration, I like that without taking it down. Pluse you get an 'instant' change with capacitor changes....and for GODs sake, get rid of those cheap foreign pots...Korean is ok, but those darn Indo ones suck...

a cheap CTS pot has it all and the CTS 250 no load pumps almost three times the volume if you have one of those Mexican deals. In fact you can change out the pots and switch for under $30 and have three times the Ax to play. You won't believe the difference. The Mexicans have one lousy set of electonics in them, but good bodies, necks and turners...just strip out your electonics and get some decent ones...and ground them out right with just a little soldier-not the lump of Sh*# they put on them..the mexicans also have some very poorly insulated wire...get rid of it. Go to a motor shop and get some 'real' wire. The diameter of the wire you use will change the 'toneal' quality, so if you want 'twang' stay with smaller diameter and better insulation values, less twang...larger diameter and high Imp insulation.

Go with a larger diameter wire for the ground in the least. They have everything going to ONE ground source and the gague isn't right at the imput jack to the pots. It will get rid of a lot of the 'hum' if you have it. Same with the Strat. How can you take a minimum of five ground leads to the same ohm diameter wire? The freaking impedance is overloaded.... which gives out that hum or high pitch ...try it...just putting a better gound on will make one heck of a difference.
