I would have to say Clapton tbh... :?
Hendrix is definately more important as he inspired alot of the Electric Players and Even Clapton himself holds him in high respect but as a player Clapton is better for his Ability to create so much brilliance across an array of musical genres...He even did Reggae

Two great guitarists, two completely different styles, born in the fact, or should I say, my opinion, neither could play each other's music well.

Neither , though two of the best. I would say Duane Allman. I imagine he would have been the one people would be comparing with others.

I think that comparing these two artists is like comparing apples and oranges. I will say, however, that Hendrix's energy always empowered me to play... Every time I hear one of his songs, I pick up my instrument... But who wouldnt't? :D

According to Pete Townsend, Sep 18, 2003, in Rolling Stone, Jimi Hendrix is No.1 and Eric Clapton is No.4.

All Yea, Duane Allman number two. Cool link, Like I said earlier Allman in my mind would have been the greatest guitarest of all time to many and in his years of playing he showed every bit of that. Its cool to see a chart placing him as number two though I think he was number one. as already stated. I going to have to play an Allman Brother album.

A little trivia the Allman Brothers Bassest Berry Oakley died from a motorcycle crash like 12 motnhs after Duane and just three blocks from were Duane crashed his Bike hitting the side of a truck that was turning. Barry hit a bus that was turning in front of him.

To those who shouldn't know, the places they died is only a couple of blocks away! Which I guess just makes it even creepier

I agree with you on Duane being the potentially best guitar player!

The funny thing is, I've read a couple of articles stating that Duane really had a hard time learning to play and was literally driving bands and friends mad with practice
Also he is said to be left handed but played right hand like Mark Knopfler
Can someone confirm these things?

Im gonna go w/Clapton on this one. Hendrix is an awesome guitar player dont get me wrong, but Hendrix was quoted many times saying Clapton was his biggest inspiration. So Clapton is indeed God.

Does this mean Hendrix is Jesus?
