Clapton IS God

Hendrix anyday, but id prob pick Peter Green or Rory Gallagher over both.

Clapton isnt my fav im afraid anyway. He's very...well, standard. he just plays standard blues, nothing that really makes it his, at least in my opinion. Green and Gallagher took the blues, and moulded it into exactly what made their sound theirs.

Outside of Cream, I would find it hard to differentiate claptons playing from any other half decent blues player. He's very very overrated.

I must stress though, before i get thrown off the forum for flaming or something, this is just my humble opinion.

See now your talking of 2 very different players. Hendrix for composition and live performance any day. Clapton owns him for live guitar playing though. Hendrix always struck me as being sloppy and out of tune live, when he felt like performing. I cant recall any mention of clapton stating 'were not getting it together, goodnight' at any of his gigs. Clapton was and is meticulous about rendition. On the other hand clapton never played between his legs, round the back of his head or any of that stuff that made hendrix.

Different. Jimi had a much better command of chord voicing and playing with chords of a song. Clapton had a much mellower vibe - more of a normal chord and basic solo type guy.

I like them both for different reasons. Clapton is a bad blues player though. He's more of a bluesy rock guy, than a real blues player for sure.

Why would a question such as this matter to you in the first place? Can't people simply enjoy the music of either? Does this have to be a "my guitar God can beat up your guitar God" situation...isn't that rather childish at best? If you get more votes for Clapton are you going to dance around the floor yelling "My guitar God wins!"? If you get more votes for Hendrix are you going to sulk in a corner or crack on others for having different tastes and opinions than yours? Is your life really that sad and empty?

I'm sorry but I just do not understand why people seem to have a pathetically childish need to turn stuff like this into some kind of competition. Hendrix and Clapton both are legends in their own right. They have both made very significant contributions to music and both have earned their place in music history. There is no "better" or "worse" here...only different. As far as playing style or technique, a person such as Al DiMeola could smoke either of them (and most other guitar players for that matter). Again though it's not a competition...people like what they like. I enjoy Hendrix -and- Clapton -and- David Gilmore -and- Pete Townsend -and- Al DIMeola -and- Stevie Ray Vaughn -and- Billy Gibbons -and- BB King -and- Robert Johnson -and- Jeff Beck -and- George Benson -and- George Clinton -and- Carlos Santana -and- Django Reinhart -and- Jimmy Page -and- Randy Roades -and- Mark Knopfler -and- Frank Zappa -and-..........
