These days I usually budget $2,000 for a guitar purchase. Then again, I'm old, never had kids and can afford it. But I'm not above buying a $200 guitar if I like it. I've got a $200 Epi Dot Studio that I just love.

Right now...£0 :(

I can't justify spending more than £500 on a guitar based on my self evaluation of my bass playing skills and regular bank balance/spending.

I only ever plan on owning 3 guitars maximum. I have my MIA Jazz Bass which I will never sell as long as I play and next I plan on a fretless project using ebay for parts; a jazz bass most likely. After that I wouldn't mind an old pre-CBS p-bass to string with flatwounds - failing that an old Danelectro DC '59 bass (more likely, even if they are bloody hard to find here).

A large guitar collection doesn't appeal to me; I'd rather have a fewer well loved and played guitars than many under used pristine instruments. Which is good cause it suits my budget (well maybe not the p-bass, hence the Dano fall back plan ;)).

Amp wise I'm happy with my Laney though when I start gigging I can see myself getting a nice cab. I'm not too sentimental about equipment though.

Effects wise, again, not too sentimental and I tend to prefer a clean bass tone. I like to mess around in amplitube though sometimes.

This just sounds like a matter of dropping the final "d" from your "College Fund" ....

I believe the money I've spent already is probably more than my talent justifies. Not sure why I'm pricing another Jazzmaster (Candy Apple Red -- sweet!!). GAS will drive me to the poorhouse.

Currently I feel the need to purchase nothing. So it doesn't matter what my budget is.
