I am a relatively new fan of Papa Roach since seeing them live last year. Wow - what a show they put on. Last year's Paramour Sessions album was amazing, with such (so rare these days) solid songwriting throughout. However, I have been quite disappointed with the new Metamorphisis album.

What do you think?

I'm with you 100%. Their Live in Chicago dvd is really good. Great live band and song writing. Personally, Lovehatetragedy, Getting Away with Murder and The Paramour Sessions are their best records. I love that band.

I like their first CD Infest, but other than that, I haven't kept up with them. Pretty much when they underwent their rap-metal look to a newer emo-rock-punk look, I realized they were just poseurs and pawns created by their record label to cash in on the rap-metal, or nu-metal, trend, then when the trend changed to a more straight out rock sound with a punk look, or punk-inspired rock bands, the record company made them change with the tides....I am sure they would be a good band if they weren't under such a tight grip from their label or management...

Papa Roach then...

You could be right, but I think it was more of them starting out rock, the label made them go rap-rock, and after they changed labels, they've been rock ever since.

I'm not really a fan of theirs, but members of the band are from right here in Vacaville, CA. I can remember seeing the signs for their shows plastered on poles and such around town.

Either way man, it just makes them lose some credibility with me, and I just don't like the Scott Weiland (with a touch of Josh Todd from Buckcherry)/Velvet Revolver-makeover that the band underwent for whatever reason, either willingly or unwillingly....

Maybe its just me, but when I look at Papa Roach today, I think:

I mean it literally looks to me as if some record exec said,"We want them to look like a combination of Velvet Revolver and Buckcherry, while playing a sort of too rock to be metal and too metal be rock sort of thing..." I know music is not a fashion show, but the only thing that Papa Roach has done recently since Getting Away With Murder that has gotten my attention is this weird makeover...

I saw them live last year. I went in to the show not expecting much. I thought they were a rap-metal band which is not my thing. I was shocked -- they were soooooo good live. I was blown away with their set. Afterwards, getting Paramour Sessions, I was very imprssed with the strength of their songwriting (unfortunately, I can't say the same for Metamorphosis). That's where I am coming from ... I am not hung up on Jacoby's hairstyle or clothes.

Never really a fan. they always seemed to me to be an image band. Riding the trend, rap metal slowed down so they went to the next thing.

rap metal peaked with Suicidal tendencies and early faith No More anyway.
