I just zipped throug these post and only 2 names kept popping up John and Henry which shows the sad state of music. Both are talented but nothing special, geez when mayer first came out he sounded like a Dave Mathews clonethen said he was a bluesman at heart but had to have some success before he could do what he realy wanted to do.The only thing I can say is that with all the instuctional dvds the internet and tabs there are a lot of young kids who are phenominal at such a young age you can see a ton of them on youtube,I know most of you remember having to put the needle back on the turntable a thousand times or slow it to 16 to learn that killer lick lol.Well sooner or later some of these kids are going to learn the song is more important than a thousand notes and then when they put that killer guitar with a good song a change is a gonna come.

Never had much of an interest in that "guitar hero" sort of stuff. To me, 90% of the time guitar solos are just filler when the songwriter has run out of things to say. My favorite "rock" bands (Nirvana, R.E.M., The Clash, Pixies) were never too big on guitar solos, either.

Granted, I am a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, but that's an exception. He could make his guitar speak.
