I guess you can say i am stuck in the 60's and 70's but every time i turn the radio on and hear them trying to pass this preppy stuff as rock i cry a little.

All i hear these days is people playing nothing but chords and singing about being heartbroken or texting their girlfriend there is no Soul, No Guitar Solos, No Riffs and no talent its sacrilege if you ask me.

Although i have noticed since those rock band/guitar hero games have come out allot of youngsters have taken interest in the Guitar, Hopefully the Rock Revival will come soon.

Long live the Rock Reconquest.

Derek trucks is by far the best of those 3, in my opinion.

don't forget warren haynes, not a young gun really, but he is current, and his stuff is awesome.

Tell me he doesn't have serious guitar chops.

Amen to that! i'm only 23 and so i'm a bit of an oddity because i'm in love with 60s and 70s music, and i consistently RAG on alot of today's music. i think some of my fellow age group members see me as an outcast. they're all rockin out to the new flavors of the week, and i'm huddled in a corner waiting for it to end, wondering where all the good stuff went

at any rate though, there certainly are many awesome artists around today for who i am thankful. i LOVE jam bands for starters. my only hope in today's music.

oh and about John Mayer...i'm sorry, i cannot stand him. he's like those ripped jeans you buy in The Gap. i mean yea he can play, but he's just some boy toy hipster for all the chicks. most of his music could easily be featured as background for TV shows like Grey's Anatomy and The Hills...you know...chick flicks. i wish he'd at least grow some balls. I thought Try! was gonna be a good turnabout, but i was not impressed.

I'm 16 and I'm in the same position. I know exactly 0% of the songs my friends all know the words to. But I know all the words to songs from the 60s and 70s. I've tried to get some of my friends into it too, but they generally think I'm crazy for listening to my parent's record collection more than I listen to top 40 radio.

Oh, and I agree about John Mayer.

*Shakes head at board members*
I don't want to turn this into a Mayer thread but:

-Rene Martinez (Stevie Ray Vaugh's guitar tech) calls him the "...only player that can make the guitar sound as good as it should sound..."

-Eric Clapton calls him the next slowhand

-He's won 7 Grammys
