after many attempts and failures on my own, i turned my addictions over to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ about a month ago and have not smoked anything since, nor had the desire....praise God. if you can't tell, yes i am a born again christian and always looking for a chance to talk about Him. plus i'm working towards my first pick. so bear/bare with me.

Cheers fella's. I tried patches in 96 and found them to be a constant reminder rather than a replacement to ween myself off with. I'd cut down at the time to 5 a day. I went onto the patch's and soon rose back up to 20. I never tried the inhalator, i'll pop to the chemist tommorow.

Hows it goin then man?

Sorry for responding so late.

I am a former smoker. I tried everything. Patches, gums, pills, cold turkey. After several attempts I finally stopped by using a product called Chantex.

For me it gave me colorful dreams at night (no nightmares) and the ability to just quit. It is expensive and my insurance did not cover it. (They would rather me keep smoking and get worse COPD than I already have.)

I can tell you that I have not smoked in 4 months and before that 8 months. I slipped up a couple times. You will always have the craving (like a junkie or alcoholic) you just have to keep it in your mind to stay off the Coffin-nails.

Good luck with your endeavors and let us know if you need a push in the right direction. RK

I quit smoking just over 4 years ago now, using the inhalers. They are good, I smoked heavily for about 40 years. So much so, I now have COPD.
In the time I have stopped, I have been able to buy 3 more Fender guitars, 6 Gibson, 2 Burns, a Gretsch, Ibanez and Fernandes, plus 2 Marshall amps. A pc, a tv and various other bits and pieces. Oh yes !! I was a heavy drinker as well and kicked that.
So that shows what you can do, I hope reading this helps you along.
Good luck and treat yourself with the money you save, it help's keep you going. :D

Is that all from the cigarette money????

I smoked from the age of 12 to 25. At one point I was up to three packs a day until one day I decided to just quit. It wasn't easy but I just stopped. If you want to quit, just stop it!

I feel your pain man. When I quit I was working as a Diesel mechanic and a machinery operator and everyone around me smoked constantly. I even had "friends" that tried to encourage me to keep smoking. It wasn't easy, but you have to tell yourself and everyone else that it's no big deal. Don't even think about having one butt. Make sure you tell everyone how well you've been doing, this will help to convince yourself that it's true even if it's difficult. I know it sounds stupid, but if you just tell yourself and everyone else that it is easy to not smoke, it will be much more easy. When I quit that was all I had, my own positive reinforcement.

This is so great. Courage, stratohawk, let us know how Day 1 goes!

A friend of mine was once telling me about something he learned in a meditation class. The class was all beginners, so they had trouble concentrating, their minds would wander and think about all sorts of other things when they were supposed to be clear. The teacher told them, when you feel your mind wandering and you're losing focus, just forgive yourself and bring it back.

Same as practicing guitar, exactly. When I skip a day, or when I try a new song and it's really frustrating and horrible, it's tempting just to give up because it's too hard, but I'm trying to follow the above advice, forgive myself, and just pick the guitar up again the next day.

So I imagine it's the same with quitting smoking.

We're with you guys!

I got the zyoban prescribed. As the Racehorse said the doctor warned me of dreams and nightmares. Told me also to carry on smoking and that they will drop off as the drug starts to work.

As Jello Biafra said 'DRUG ME'.
