Good luck!! I've been smoke free 4 1/2 years after 37 years of puffin'.

If I can do it anyone can! Quit accidentally trying to cut down from two packs a day. Just kept going -- poof!

Go '09 and Niki! Please post on your progress.

They say with anything tough like this you should take it in threes - try to go the first three minutes, then three hours, then three days, then three weeks, and once you hit three months, the seasons will have changed, your body will be that much more recovered, and then three years and three decades are a piece of cake.

p.s. Even though I never smoked, after seeing the suggestion in another recent thread I'm doing the save-the-price-of-a-pack-a-day thing anyway, and hoping to get some new gear from it (Reverb tank is #1 on the wish list at the moment).

Yep Its 3 months for the poisons to fully leave your system. I read in the readers digest some years ago that the first effects only take 15minutes to manifest. The temperature of your hands and feet rise as yor circulation improves.

Good luck. Stay on track and it will get easier by the day. You won't be sorry.

After puffing away for 36 years I was finally able to put them down 16 months ago. I can't get over how much better I feel. I didn't realize how bad I felt until that crap started getting out of my system.

Besides the health thing, another incentive is the money you'll save. I kept track of what I didn't spend on smokes last year and bought a MIM Standard Strat and a R.I. '51 Precision Bass. My wife says that was money well spent.

All Thumbs and Niki! Good luck to you both! You can certainly do it! I quit cold turkey in 2007. It was a piece of cake! It only took a heart attack to motivate me! It scared the living $@#% out of me! Please do this so you won't have to go through what I did!

Smokers are 4 to 5 times more likely to have a heart attack! Do it for them, do it for yourself! Hang in there! You can do it!

Here are two advices I can give you to help.

1. Drink plenty of water, up to three liters (3 ounces) a day. It helps cleansing the toxics out of your kidneys.

2. An old schoolfriend of mine was/is a vegan and he told me that drinking organig orange juice is good to cleans the toxics out of your body.

actully there are three advices.

3. Exercise. Start lightly... go for a walk or something, just anything to get the sweat going. Sweating is also got to get rid of the toxics.

These are excellent ways to get rid of the chemicals that have build up in your body and make you grave for cigarrette (Nicotine, cyanide (yes there is cyanide in cigarrettes))

Break a leg :D

Hi, Nonni,

For our metric-challenged US members, just a correction - 3 litres is 101.47 fluid ounces, or about 3 quarts.

I quit and restarted many a times. However the key to quitting is really wanting to quit. What I mean by that is not having half a notation but true desire to leave it. When you have that you'll put 'em down for good.

Best wishes.

Me? I couldn't bear the thought of dying while not being able to get a breath. My sister died that way a couple of years ago. She was way too young. Having a smoke was probably one of the last things she did.

I haven't smoked tobacco for 11 years. Good luck you guys. It CAN be done...and it's worth it!
