Hello Anarchy in the forums,

There's a few guitars laying around over here,
and I'm glad I have them and I play em all.
{except for an old acoustic thats been retired}
Glad I got a few washcloths too

Cheers.

'Had a day off and played 7 different guitars, one of them twice, across the span of 17 hours, probably 4 with an instrument in hand.

Through 2 different amps and one purely acoustic. Why? because each felt right in turn.

Oulde hippie saying comes to mind for replying to the, "Why do you need more...?" critic.

"I am not in this world to live up to your expectations and you are not in it to live up to mine. If we are on the same vibe, let's walk together. If not, let's follow our own paths in peace."

And another, from a great historian and artist: "Nothing is as stupid as somebody else's hobby."

bros , i agree with B 'one can't have too many guitars' or amps for that matter , for all of the aforementioned reasons .

Yep:

Line 6 DuoVerb (100 W 2 X 12") -- solid state, good for rock and the emulations do a fair job of modeling some vintage amps. Good for when you need lots of horsepower or the drummer doesn't know how to take it easy.

Super 210 -- similar to the classic all tube Twin sound but smaller, lighter and less expensive. I get sounds out of this (blues, old school rock, jazz) that the DuoVerb only barely approaches. Great for small venue gigs without having to mic up.

Super Champ XD -- great tube sound in a small box and very portable. It's small enough even to take on a vacation of 3 - 4 days if I feel like playing electric. Decent built in effects and also good for rehearsal or hauling over the girlfriend's house.

Bassman 210/250 -- a decent amount of punch to get modern bass sounds (rock/jazz) and it's reasonably portable. But it lacks a heavy bottom, so ...

Acoustic B200 -- 15" with horn -- has a lot of bottom end and I can get vintage (60s/70s Bay area groups) bass. Also portable, for when I'm doing more classic rock or jazz work.

Both in combination are a kind of best of both worlds -- especially for the bass player who wants to be heard and felt as well as "seen."

How about different tones. And it's nice to have a spare if one get damaged or is in the repair shop. What about electric AND acoustical. Each one of my guitars is very different with a different tone and feel. I have four different guitars......and now I'm happy with that. Others might want more tones and feel. If you only like one.....pick out that one and enjoy. We're all different.

i feel its reasonable to have max 3 guitars, mainly 2 electrics and 1 accoustic.

At one time a few years ago I had 62 guitars/basses and 10 amps.

I am now down to 5 guitars (4 Electric, 1 A/E), 3 basses (2 Electric, 1 A/E), 4 amps (1 Tube, 1 Solid State, 1 Bass, and 1 very special custom hand made Tube).
It all depends on my mood as to which one gets played. But all of them do get played.

Funny- if Imelda Marcos 10,000 guitars in her closet I think I could understand where she's coming from- 17 guitars- Nice! :)

I think accumulating guitars serves many purposes- it would be odd if they were all stock Fender MIA Strats painted the same color- that would be a little bit like Munk with OCD. But people who own many guitars and like to buy and collect do so just like any other collectors- car collectors- gun collectors- etc, for the enjoyment and sometimes monetary value.

Also there is a practical usage- I like to be able to tune one electric at standard and one at Eb and leave em there. I also like to have several acoustics for open string tunings so I can just pick them up and play- that way I'm not constantly tuning and retuning and I don't forget songs. And then there's different tones that you get with different woods and pups and strings and having at least one nice strat and one les paul can be very useful for the different sounds and feels that you can get.

Last thing is having a sense of history and a relationship with each of your guitars. Bowlfreshener, I guess that would make you somewhat of a g'tar ho  (lol) having all 17 of them. But seriously, some guitars are gifts and some are first guitars and still others are our favorite guitars and some just look good and never get played, but the ones we just can't seem to let go of usually have sentimental value and they become part of who we are and the music that we make.

Yes, I've been known to sleep with my guitar - and sometimes I sleep with all of them. ;) Others, I never quite get along with and out the door they go! Just ask people like SRV why they have so many guitars and they will tell you that they are passionate about each one and each one has some special significance and history that is a part of who they are.

Like most other posters here, I see nothing wrong with having more than one guitar. I've had all six of mine out today, different guitars for different sounds. I actually have a spot of G.A.S. these days, I might just add another soon

Each one is different. My Casino and my Strat do not sound alike, and I use different guitars for different songs.

I don't see the point in owning several of the same guitar, though... there are people who own ten Les Pauls with identical configurations.

The closest I have is my Squier Strat and Fender, which sound different, and my Fullerton and Martin acoustics, which do sound very similar.

I own a few guitars and my three main guitars have different pickups and configurations so they are different sounding guitars :)
