I wanted to put Buddy Holly in there somewhere too. I also considered Doloris O'Riordan (vocals), Ronnie James Dio, Ace Frehley, George Thorogood, Hank Williams, and multiple others. This game really gets your brain running!

Rod Stewart - scratching my head on your choice too mate

Oh, man ... Rod was amazing in the ol' days, with Jeff Beck and Faces. Maybe I should have said "with early Rod Stewart".

Hmm.... tough one.

Guitar : Mike Campbell --not real flashy, but when has he ver played anything that wasn't perfect for the song.
rhythm guitar/vocals: John Fogerty (my all time favorite rock and roll singer: didn't have the range and or control of a Freddie mercury, but has that undeniable rock and roll voice.)
Bass: Sir Paul, he was (is,) just so damned melodic
Drums: Carl Palmer-maybe the most unappreciated drummer(or even rock musician,) of all time.

Greg Allman on organ and vocals
Tal Wilkenfeld on bass
Dickey Betts on guitar
Robbie Robertson on guitar
Ginger Baker on drums

Please note the lack of dead people
Also I think that this group would actually perform well while bringing their individual styles to the band

If it's just a matter of putting together the best guitarist, drummer, bass player etc. it would go something like this:

Hendrix and Duane on guitars with Hendrix singing the VERY few words
Mitch Mitchell and Jaimoe as drummers
Jack Bruce on bass
Greg Allman on organ

Bass - Bill Wyman
Piano - Ian Stewart
Sax - Bobby Keyes

Oh....wait...I think they already did that.
