If so, then what?

I like a lot of classical to chill out and a lot of C.W. Stoneking and Zero 7 can be without guitar, love them too.

Classic Jazz (usually horns/piano/bass/drums)

and

some progressive rock (keyboard dominated stuff like ELP, Trace, Ars Nova).

All the time. In fact, I'd rather listen to non-guitar music to learn more and grow. You'd be surprised what listening and playing saxophone lines will do to your chops, your phrasing and the way you play.

More than the average american hard-rocker (which I pretty much am), I love ethnic music from all over. Not only because I like how it sounds, but because I love to hear what the rest of the world does with the same 12 (really 11) notes that we all have access to. I can listen to any good music and pick things out of it that I'll want to use or try, or put my own spin on and add to my musical vocabulary.

I'll even "play" words that I read. Like....

"Today is a beautiful day."

If you say that when you're happy, you'll speak different notes. Say that sad, and those notes will be completely different. Say is angry, and the notes and phrasing change again. I would think of a thought or idea I felt strongly about, say it, then figured out the notes to what I just spoke. Those little riffs can start songs, be chords, be the melody line to something. And, you can go on and on with that all day. Once your use to that, and you have a good understanding of music, you can then start "speaking" with your guitar and putting your feelings and emotions better into what you play.

I love Zero 7. And they have a lot of guitar actually. It's basically two guys, guitar and keyboards, and both write their stuff. They just have Sia and a few others singing with them. Waiting Line, Somersault, Destiny, (and a lot others) all heavy acoustic guitar really. Listen to their unplugged and "AOL Sessions" version. Great stuff.

Hello Celtic Cyclonus,

I've got a few dozen Bagpiping CDs
I listen to regularly, soloists and bands.
Not really something to relax with but I know
most of the tunes so theres a lot of association
with the Pipe band I once played with. Always a student.

Cheers.

You may be interested in a Word Music album I played on a few years back called Music From a Diverse City by The Motion Project, its available through iTunes and was recorded by musicians from 48 different countries living here in Belfast, a friend of mine put it together to challenge issues with cultural diversity and to show that theres more to Belfast than people think, some of its good and some bad but it got good reviews and is available through iTunes and the proceeds go to a good cause......thats what I did when I wasn't playin in the Hard Rock band. Some tracks have Chinese harp which is the 2nd most amazin in instrument I've seen (after Telecaster's of course!).

+1

Also, I've been getting very much into spoken word stuff lately. I suppose some might characterize it as "poetry" as opposed to "music" but it's interesting and enjoyable nevertheless. Tom Waits in particular does a lot of really neat things without guitars.

Lots of music - I'm very eclectic in my musical taste.

Jazz, Trance, Ambient, Classical, Electronic.

About the only music I don't listen to is Opera - everything else has been seen and heard in my house. :P

Yeah, electro (daft punk, justice, friendly fires), Gorillaz, some Hip-Hop, even rap.
And weird stuff, like sigur ros. There is a guitarplayer in that band, but he uses a 'stick' (don't know the english word) that is also used to play the violin and cello.

But ofcourse I mostly play guitar music.
