My band have just split...... after some great gigs opening for Adler's Appeitite, LA Guns and more and a great EP have just split.....I am gutted and heartbroken. At 27 I'm ragin at havin to start all over again and put a new one together......we're usually in rehearsal at this time and I feel like I just lost a loved one.

The material we were writing was so good but after a 6 month search for a new singer the other guys just gave up and cant be arsed lookin any more.

I'm gonna miss that particular combination.... man we were good.

CC :? :(

Bummer...A band ending is much like a relationship with a significant other...Take some time to re-group, and don't rush into any rebound bands "just cause its a band" type situations...Also, forever is too long to say never, so you never know, some time down the road, everyone may want to get back together again...

Cheers man... I hope so. Was the best band I've ever played with, I'm in shock.

Its never good. My advice dont let the dust settle one bit. Its taken me 3 years since my last band to get going again and let me tell you i'm as stagnant as mucky pond water.

Thats what I meant on the other post bro that I was havin a bad few days, it was on the cards and confirmed earlier.

I need somethin to do every Mon and Thur and miss gigging too. Theres a new rehearsal space opened up in Belfast so I'm gonna get a few bandless friends down and check it out next week and see what happens.

How come its taken you so long to get goin again man? I physically couldn't do that without meltin or somethin.

Its horrible aint it?

I was in your situation, but i didn't get anything going. i ended up taking a LONG break from even playing. i regret it now.

I pretty much burned myself out we were away from home every weekend, out of the country when the kids were on school holidays recording and holding down a job inbetween times. My part in the band ended in italy after serious problems/arguments/violence with the vocalist. I pretty much lost faith in music and even more faith in musicians.

All over a kebab whilst drunk. The straw that spilt the camels pint.

Is there any possibility that you could work your way into an established band so you can somewhat pick up from where you left off?

Martian if Celtic's situation in his hometown is anything like my own then good (and i mean excellent) guitarists are ten a penny. Spots are usually taken by a dominant personality on guitar thats pretty much running the band. This is because their usually dreaming of being the next Vai and exhibiting their chops with gusto. Its hard work to find a band thats ditched one and wants a replacement with a more rational approach. A band i recently stood in as guitarist for (much thanks to your post concerning that) had a dominant bass player who on the 2nd gig tried to set me off against their regular guitarist. When that didnt work they tried to set him against me.
Upon consideration i think Celtic would be far better looking for replacements for his band. Work i know but he seems inclined that way.

Celtic try this site i'm not sure if they cover NI but they do UK and USA so your chances are good. I now live in nowhere lincolnshire and found 3 bands in a 30mile radius in 3 weeks despite the situations i mentioned above.

http://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/region.php?f=16

There you go i even found NI for you. Saying that you may be better off looking to dublin. isnt it the seat of Irish guitar heroes

I would say i am a hobbyist now. I am older than you, and really have no interest in being a full time musician anymore. I do however play with friends, and do the odd gig here and there, for fun.

I was very burned out, before. it isn't all glitz and glamour.

Thanks so much for the help Nikininja, it means the world.....really.

Yeah, Martian, Nik's right, there are thousands of guitarists round here, the ratio to drummers and bassists is prob 20:1 at least. Thanks though.

This sucks big time guys, I can't even sleep.

Thanks for the the link and thanks again for the help.

Being in a steady band can be the best and the worst thing all at the same time. A great band, that clicks, and everyone "knows" each others style so well, where you "know" what the other guys are going to play before they play it, is a great thing. When that falls apart, for whatever reason, it's always a lonely feeling.

Don't stay feeling like that for long though. Use that. Take this opportunity to take yourself in a different direction. Expand your playing. Be a "sub" for other bands, teach, take lessons, write, record. Find part of your playing you've always wanted to test out, and seek others that are like that too. Do acoustic show solo, start scoring soundtracks for indie films or commercials. There is an endless area of places where you can take your musical talent and knowledge and use them, grow further and help others grow along the way.
