Expanding my listening pleasures. Give the names of some good Hard Rock bands to check out. I would prefer Classic stuff from the 60's, 70's, and maybe the 80's.

Be warned I can not stand KISS (Paul Stanley's voice reminds me of fingernails on a chalkboard) or anything Buckethead.

OK. Chet how about BLUE CHEER? I'm sure you remember the song Summertime Blues. Also you can't forget QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE and then you got THE CHOCALATE WATCHBAND kind of unknown California band garage rock mid late 60's

well, I would suggest metallica, but they are more of metal.... some of their softer songs include, Fade to Black, The Unforgiven, Turn the Page (cover), The Day That Never Comes, probably a few others that I am forgetting...

There is a channel on Sirius called Hard Classic Rock that has been playing a lot of Metallica.

Chet, for a current band with an early-70s vibe, check the Mooney Suzuki.

Here's the video for their song "Alive and Amplified" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rJnIS5JWHw
Check out the cool Fender Starcaster played by the lead singer!
