Looks, sustain, playability and ease of mass production... to name a few.

Agreed.

That said, thousands of varied pro and less pro musicians of beaucoup genres over many decades have used all variants of necking a guitar to advantage, producing great sound and enjoying grande success.

In this opinion, t comes down to what's best for you at the time, for the type of music you want to do and what mood you are in at the moment.

'Have happily used a set or bolt neck hollow, semi or solid, tube or solid state or combos thereof, over the decades, to happily play the same music with the same satisfaction, at different times.

In this opinion again, sometimes we get a wee, eensy weensie nano-bit too hung up on equipment minutiae... and this picker does not claim to have ears like Eric Johnson or Blackie Pagano, by any means.

There are adjustments you can do to bolt on necks that you are no going to put a set neck down in front of you and do . Then there are adjustments you can't do on a neck thru guitars which is a guitar were the neck and the center body are one and the wings are put on into place, the pickups and bridge are in the center core which extends as the neck as well.
Neck thru are the most time consuming to make followed by Set necks and then bolt ons.

+1 , and then the set thru neck which is a set neck (glued on) with a slightly larger neck to body surface kind of the best of both .

is this why Jackson guitars have always been so damn expensive?
I have always wanted a USA King V or Rhodes, but the price is a real put off

One of them but some will say a neck thru guitar is the ultimate is sustain because it as close as you can get to a production one piece guitar. This is because the neck and the bodies center mass are one and the wing being glued on are just as a multi piece body blank would be and the neck being part of the blank itself. Neck thru guitars are a much more sturdy design and have less problem then others but when they do you may as well forget it.
