Yeah, that's right Justin Hayward used that Gibson 335 every time I saw them and I saw them live in Manchester in about 1970.
Can't remember exactly what bass John Lodge played but I'm seeing a Fender p. in my memory but I recall he did like Ricky basses too and I'm pretty sure the band used Marshall amps.
They were one of my favourite bands in the 60/70s and they were very good live too, vocal harmonies, excellent.
They were supported by a group called Trapeze.

The original Trapeze? Mel Galley, Glenn Hughes, and Dave Holland? One of my historical favorites...

Is this the same Glen Hughes who sang alongside Coverdale with Deep Purple?

Yeah, I believe it is.

Much prefered Hughes to Coverdale , just went up another notch whenever he got his tonsils warmed up

That is the same Glenn Hughes and he is still an outstanding vocalist.

While in the early days John Lodge used his Precision, he now plays a Fender Jazz on almost every live date. He also has a white Fender double-neck guitar/bass that comes out for a song or two.

Justin Hayward plays the Gibson ES-335 on roughly half the songs, he uses an acoustic as well, but he also uses a Telecaster now and then.

BTW, Gibson (is that a dirty word here?) put Justin in their "10 Giants of The ES-335" list, which you can find on that 'other' website.

My brother was a huge fan so I heard a lot of MB growing up and would consider them the only prog band I really loved because that is what they really were. Never cared for ELP or Yes but the MB had a lot of great albums and songs. Nights in White Saturn, Tuesday Afternoon, Ride My Seesaw, The Question and The Story in Your Eyes all still sound great today. If Denny Laine never left they would of been a totally different sounding band, more on the pop side.

In a 66 Marshall catalogue the Moodys were endorsers along with: Who, Roy Orbison,Spencer Davis,The Yardbirds,Small Faces,Lulu and the Luvvers,Graham bond Organisation and a lot of other UK groups that were little known on this side of the pond-of course I know that R.O. isn't British.

I'm an old geezer yet here's my take on them:

Intrinsically, yes, I really like them, always did. Back in the day, throw one of their records on (yes, records) and it was pretty much a guarantee that if you were alone with a girl, it would put her in a romantic mood right quick. :D

FYI: The times I saw them in concert, in addition Hayward using a 335, he also used a white Pre-CBS Strat with a maple fingerboard.

They will be here in Nashville at TPAC next month. I will report on whatever I can glean from their equipment.

Bluejays (Haywood & Lodge) is another fine collection of music that I like a lot...

What kind of guitars and amps did they use, especially on the first albums, like through "Long Distance Voyager"?

Thank you, Lounge e-pals.

Thanks Folks, it's been a while since starting this thread.

Maybe late tonite, 'pour a Bass or Charles Wells and listen to the veteran cosmic rockers.
