So, I know it isn't much, but I'm very excited to have performed my first successful repair today - I took off the back plate on my Strat and tightened the screws on the claw thing that holds the springs for the tremolo bridge, so that it would sit flat against the guitar body.

I had been playing some drop D stuff and finding it went out of tune continuously. Got it all back together without even any parts left over!

I know this won't impress the professional builders and riggers and all here, but I was quite proud of myself...

you have no idea the slippery $@!&# you just pushed your toboggan down!!!

Kidding aside, congrats. nothing feels better than taking the upkeep, and adjusting of your guitar into your own hands. Always proceed with caution, and you will be fine!

edit, wow is the filter ever touchy, "slo"with "pe" on the end got hit!!

Thats it Ellen you've done it now. Your life of tinkering is now set in stone. You may as well go and buy a load of screwdrivers, files, drills and chisels and cover the kitchen table in them. You'll be building your own signature pieces in a year.

Well done Ellen, I'm well impressed. I've never attempted any work on my guitars, lack of confidence methinks  It takes a bit of courage to do this kind of stuff, there will be no stoping you now :D Onward and upwards!!!

As well you should be! Like the others before me have said, you'll be doing serious mods and building your own guits in no time! Well done! 8)

You should be proud of yourself!

Even the most seasoned professional had to perform her or his very first task way back when. The fact that not only did you successfully achieve your desired result the first time, but without messing anything else up in the process should make you all the happier!!

Congrats!!!

I would be to scared to "fix" something

When I try to do that stuff it explodes or disappears

I've done that with 3 things now

My old bike, old skateboard, old go-cart (of my brothers, I was tring to start it up and the engine fell apart, no joke)

Notice that I said old next to everything, meaning I don't have it anymore

Now when the chain needs WD-40 on my (new) bike or the trucks need tighting on my (new) skateboard, I get a friend to do it for me. They don't want me lose another *item* (can't find the right word) again!

Even when you do make a mistake, learn from it. They happen and its the best you can hope to acheive out of em.

Truth be told, you aren't the only one. And reinforcing your point, oftentimes, making mistakes are an excellent source of hidden knowledge.

After a couple little things like that I realized that there was very little I could do to actually screw up a guitar and now I'll give anything a shot.
