I use humidifiers with my two acoustics down here in LA ... the air can get very dry at times. I also do that with my two semi-hollow electrics.. I keep my solid bodies in racks but I have noticed that the necks will dry out fairly quickly in winter ... I need to keep up with that.

So in general, I'd say that yes in a dry climate and especially in winter, humidifiers are a good idea. Besides the small ones for the cases, I also have a couple general purpose models for my condo. As my doctor points out, extremely dry air usually isn't terrific for your lungs either.
