Why any offense thats clearly not my aim? Clearly there was segregation as you yourself stated. My reference to grammar school was taken from my own struggle to enter grammar school from catholic school. I had to sit the entrance exam at the grammar school some 15 miles from home.
You really dont want to take me as another uppity english bloke. I'm making reasonable enquiry. Why not choose to enlighten instead of belittle. It does nothing for you.

I'm not tryin to belittle you bro.......sorry.

And I know you were'nt trying to offend either.

I don't know about England man, here you do your 11plus at Primary School and then go to a Catholic Grammar if you pass. I didn't know that was the way in England.

Don't want to fall out man, sorry if I was comin across strong...had a bad few days.

No worries.
It makes sense about a more uniform education structure in Ireland. In England school structure is governed by diocese. In warwickshire where i received my latter education is under a protestant diocese, worcestershire where i grew up is catholic diocese and has no grammar schools in the county except privately subscribed schools that sometimes accept 11+ students. Still no structured method of education within that system leading up to the 11+ system. No doubt a leftover of the many national religion changes in england during the middle ages.

On a side note where i went to school (king edwards edgbaston) is a couple of miles from the center of one of the biggest irish communities in england (digbeth, birmingham). Consider that i know nothing of ireland except the tales of hardship at the hands of the clergy from my mom, aunts and uncles. It makes a bit of sense that someone another 6000 miles away could know less. After all by your own admission you know nothing of the english education system, yet grew up the same distance from me as i to you. :D

You're dead right bro. I was unaware of such a structure in England - I was born n' spant the start of my life in Scotland.........again it could have been totally different had we stayed there.....standard grades as opposed to GCSE's and Highers instead of A-Levels etc.

In High School I would have been labeled as a "Stoner". I listened to Metal, had long hair, and played in a garage band.

Now I am an average person. No drugs, little alcohol, but still playing guitar. I am a Nurse by profession. I learned lessons of life early and try not to make the same mistakes again. RK
