So this local bar has a blues jam every Sunday and I think that I might go. I have never played in a band, or performed live. I have jammed with friends privately but never really in public.

Any advice? What should I take, other than a guitar? What expectations do people who typically play at these sorts of things expect of those who come to jam?

Sounds great - good luck!

My advice - be flexible, don't be nervous, and have fun. You should just need your guitar and some pics.

bro , have fun , and if you have time call them and ask about the jam how it's organized if there is an MC what gear is available and what participants usually bring .

Surely there's a frequent guitarist there, you should be able to follow his lead and get to shine in from time to time.

Wow, that sounds great. I've heard of these things, I might try one out in the near future too! Good plan, mate.

I guess it can't hurt to bring a cable, just in case there rn't enough...

Hey FenderHead..

Have fun at the Jam. Most of the people at Jams are really really cool and are just there to have a good time as well. Stick with what you are comfortable with- If thats rhythm then listen before the song for the progression...(ie "Shuffle in E" or " 8 Bar in A" with a quich Change") You will get the hang of it. When its your time to shine just play your 12 the best you can - as long as you dont riff over a singer you will be in good shape.

We've got jams all over the place in my area, it;s great because all you need is a guitar, sometimes you don't even need that. they're tons of fun!
