Simply amazing Doc! You have been withholding your musical pedigree from us!

It's not really a banner I routinely hang from the yardarm. Snowy's post became a convenient segway, so I took the opportunity. I've made reference to it early on as a 'newbie', at another appropriate time, and provoked an interesting reply from a 'doubting thomas' out there.

Larry was the one with the REAL pedigree. Consider that his father was a member of what eventually become the NYC Philharmonic, and Larry trained as what is now Juilliard. Those are seriously hewn chops.

It is of interest that both he and Fats were inducted in the same year. My uncle, posthumously.

Doc your uncle wrote "Blueberry Hill"!!

That song was giant, and it found my generation through the TV show "Happy days", as Ritchie would sing it when he got a date to go to "Inspiration Point"

A true classic!!!

Ditto: Best review my narrative and check out the link. It was vintage before it became classic. One of these days I'm hope to see Fats Domino perform and see if I can get backstage to introduce myself.

Haha - yes, I believe I remember that thread! Somebody got rather sullen with you about it, didn't they? I'm glad to say that doubting Thomas wasn't me.

But when I heard the story that time (in abreviated form) I thought to myself, "hello, might be worth sticking around this Forum. Stuff to learn..." A good descision!

Thanks Doc! I hope you get to chew it over with Fats some day...

Cheers - C

....and we are all the better, wiser, and far more knowledgable for your having taken that step. Thank YOU :!:

On the Fatman...I have a friend who shares his girth and a major major fan of his as well. Guaranteed if Domino finds his way to this area, he will drag me there for sure.

BTW: Mike has tickets for Jeff Beck in April. An early review has this one as a 'do not miss'. I, unfortunately have other committment in NY that week. But for anyone reading this who can.....do :!:

Doc

One of my favorite, obscure blasts from the past is the

Crack the Sky song Hold On/Surf City.

Blueberry Hill is a nightly occurrence round my house. My whole goal these last 3 years has been to get piano melody going at the same time as traditional berry type 5-6 rhythm guitar. I reckon i need to grow another 2 fingers.

We've long known Doc to be royalty. Outstanding intellect coupled with a completely magnanimous nature can only be elite.

You're far too kind  . Many thanks. In the matter of your quest, have you every given a listen to Johnny Johnson's CD . I wonder how many people realize how much of that 'berrybackbeat' is attributable to the piano. It's an integral part of the Berry sound and, honestly, Berry's work just doesn't 'happen' without it. I've heard some out-takes which support that to the nines. 8). Wikipedia speaks to the fact that Johnson was not the player on several of Berry's hits. A read of that essay is in order.
