Hey guys, I know you all like good music, and this community made me find out lots of stuff about bands, songs, guitars and music in general.
But:
I've never heard anything about good indie bands!
Maybe that's because the majority right here is Americans, but still!
So, here's a link to a song, it's not even their best, but it's awesome.
Please, give it a shot:

And there's also lots of other brilliant artists and bands I've never heard anything about on these fora!
Is it that we Europeans listen to such a different kind of music?
Bon Iver:

so much feeling put into this song...
There's more, but I'll let you start off with this.

If you feel like a good listenable band is being left out here, please post!

Arctic Monkeys are ok. That song's not bad, but to me they sound like an average local band, with a british singer. Nothing unusual or outstanding I'm hearing from them.

Bon Iver - never heard of them before you posted that link. I like Flume. The singing could get annoying if they sang all their songs like that, but I do like this songs. I heard a White Album influence in them a bit.

I like good bands in general, and don't lean toward indie band just because they're "indie". Many of them are horrible to me, quite honestly. It's ironic how people listen to indie bands because they can sound a bit different than mainstream bands. But many indie bands all sound the same as other indie bands. There are like 5 or 6 "sounds" that you can put pretty much any indie band into, and they're just as cookie cutter as the national acts can be, just not as successful.

I'm always on the lookout for good, original sounding bands. The last one I heard that was unique, very original, and very talented was Mars Volta. Those guys are very good, don't really sound like anyone else, and are all very proficient as well, very tight band.

Ofcourse everyone has his/her own opinion on every band, I just wanted to share this one with the community.
I know the mars volta, I have one album of them, called De-Loused in the Comatorium.
It's a bit weird sometimes, but it sure does have it's moments.
If you like the really unique bands, try out Mr. Bungle! It's a brilliant mix of about every style.
By the way, did you know John Frusciante, one of the biggest 'mainstream' guitarists, plays for the mars volta pretty frequently?

I remember when they came out a few years ago...They are okay, though not really what I prefer to listen to most of the time...

Not to belittle the Acrtic Monkeys - they're a good band. Tight, write well, proficient enough for their stuff, and they have a good sound - no doubt. I'm just hear so many newer bands that all sound very close to the same to me. It's almost like one general "style", but one has a little different thing here or there. Which is why I prefer the ones that are very good AND unique.

It's easy to sound like other bands and put a little different flavor on it. I've done that for years for advertising, commercials spots, local bands, etc "We need an original song to sound like Coldplay/ACDC/Eagles/U2/whoever for this project, but it can't actually BE one of their songs". You can do that all day and make a good living out of that. But, it's harder to be very unique AND sound great at the same time. That's where the talent comes in.

My older brother showed me them, almost reminded me of 'the who' strangely but if 'the who' was just a little less classic-rockish (Man I love making up new words)
