Probably would have changed later in his lifetime anyway--but maybe some of his G&L ideas would be on Fenders?

I played one of the Mustang/Duosonic style G&L's the other day--a used one in a store--and the feel was very similar to my Mustang--nice guitar.

He had a lot of great ideas, and surrounded himself with other talented people. He wasn't threatened by them, but utilized them to great effect. Together they created what Fender was, and because of that deserve some of the the credit for what Fender is today. (In a good way.)

I picked up a guitar handbook on a whim saturday and read about what Leo Fender did after he left Fender. I did not realize how many companies he worked with making guitars. That man sure knew how to keep busy!

Very true. A major part of Leo's genius was his unique ability to listen to what his clients were telling him and to put their feedback into action. Here's an article I've posted here before, but it bears repeating:

What We Can Learn From the Fender Stratocaster

There was some interesting info on Leo and his life's work in those articles.

I didn't know he died from complications of Parkinson's disease. But I do know how horrilble the disease is since my father-in-law also has it.

Has anyone mentioned that he would have been one hundred years old this year.

G&L are releasing some special edition guitars this year because of this fact.

Could be because has not owned Fender since 1965. Alot of his years after were when he founded and designed things for Musicman like the Stingray and then he went on to start G&L with George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt which took him back building guitars like the Strat and Tele again and working on enhancements to the original designs. Fender has not been Leo Fender for a long time. The great Fender instruments today are from a unsung group of builders and people who took a company that was going down and turned it around in 1985 when it became Fender Musical Instruments.
