Aqualung by Jethro Tull was my first song after getting thru a couple of beginers books. I took a while to get it down but once I did it was a piece of cake.

I wrote them all down in a notebook. Fifteen so far...and a good variety of music too. Pink Floyd to Cream to Tom Petty and Dylan...this learning to play guitar plan is sounding awesome 8)

I remember playing things like Wipeout, the Batman Theme, Apache, the Ballad of the Green Berets.

first thing I ever learned to play that sounded cool, and like something was the beginning to "Wasted Years" by Iron Maiden - then the first whole song, solo and everything was prob "Every Rose has its Thorn"

I've been playing guitar for three years and it wasn't until recently that I realized that I didn't know how to play Iron Man and learned it.

I can't wait to get my hands on a guitar and start learning. If I could play even a few of these by 2010 I'd be ecstatic! :D

"Iron Man" was my first song. Or maybe it was "Down on the Corner" by CCR. One or the other...I can't remember.

I actually have a really bad habit of learning parts of songs and moving on. I know a lot more partial songs than I know whole songs. It must be ADD or something. Anyone else have this problem (learning a part of a song and then moving on to a new song)?

The first song a friend showed me years and years ago was Louie Louie using A D E. Which is also Wild Thing, The Ramones' Blitzkrieg Bop, What I Like About You, and R-O-C-K in the USA.

When I started lessons, my teacher gave me this big list of open chord songs:
Twist and Shout CFGF
Wonderful Tonight GDCD
Push GDEmC
Simple Man CGAmAm
Steppin' Stone EGAC
For Your Love EGAAm
Mr Jones AmFDmG CFGG
Knockin on Heaven's Door GDAmAm GDCC
Bad Moon Rising DAGD GDAG
and once you learn all the open chords:
House of the Rising Sun
AmCDF AmCEE
AmCDF AmEAmE

Never mind about 2010, if you spend a little bit of time each day you'll be playing all of these within a few weeks! Have fun!
