Over time of starting music I have grown to love guitrs and basses. Recently I was telling my buddy about all the basses I wanted. Then he started mocking me telling me it was a waste. I thought about it and I've never met a bass player with more then three basses and here I was saving 6000$ just for basses. I've met gitarists with 20 guitars but no bassists. It would be good to know how many other peope like me are out there! If your out there say hey and list your bass collection!
Thanks,
Will

I have one p-bass, but that's because I'm a guitar player.

Although two of my friends that are bassists have 3 each...
One has an Aerodyne Jazz, MIM Standard Jazz, and Squier VM Jazz fretless, the other has a MIM Standard P bass, Dean Edge Q5, and Dean Rhapsody fretless. I guess it just depends on the player's preference.

Well, I have some of each but on the bass front:

- SG reissue (EB3) Gibson -- fast and smooth
- 1996 fretless P-bass (US made) - nice to come close to a stand up bass sound when called for.
- 1986 Squire P-bass (fretted) - Japan - high quality, low cost and it has all the classic Fender P-sound.
- Ibanez 6 string (SR-506 -- highly recommended entry level 6 in "Bass Player" a few months ago) - very fast for a 6 with a thin neck that works well with my short, stubby fingers.
- Fender fretless Custom Jazz (P-bass pup in the middle) - MIJ. This one is also a mid-80s model.
- Ibanez Ric 4001 clone circa 1973 (one of the "pattent dispute years" models. Hard to find info on these).
- Ocean 4 string fretless with active pups -- surprising quality and playability. It was a GC return at a reduced price and at that price, hard to pass up. Very different sound that the Fender P-bass.

Of course I don't really need all these basses - I could probably get most of the sounds with just a careful choice of two and then change amp settings and perhaps use a few stomp boxes. But it's just a lot more fun to have all the basses.
