Never seen Claptons Blackie in any recent show

I have a couple vintage strats and a few new ones - I find myself playing my 1991 more than any of them - my 2008 Am. Standard is prob the worst playing strat I have to be honest

THere's nowt wrong with a new Strat, but if you're on a budget an older quality Strat is better than a new cheapie! I was looking at new 'Mexican' Strats a few years back... but bought a 10 year old USA Strat Plus instead - a far better quality guitar for the same price. :)

I think he was alluring to customshop guitars not vintage. You couldnt pick a nice vintage up for 3 times the price of a AMSTD. 10 times the price maybe if your lucky and the seller is clueless.

Sure you could, depending how vintage it is and its condition. The "vintage" moniker does not always mean 1954-1959. A 31-year-old 1978 Strat is vintage, too.

Yeah i agree partialy. How could you label one a 'real strat' though when modern AMSTD's are far better than the hit and miss guitars from 67-81. Not all were terrible not all were great.

My experience has been that every Strat (actually every guitar) has a different feel and characteristics. In other words, I wouldn't generalize and say that any guitar is better than another guitar. You've got to play as many as possible and when you find a good one, go for it.

Then, usually, as time goes by, you'll find one that you like a bit better, and so on...

Totaly Mike and it does make a lot of sense to not pigeon hole guitars as good or bad. I stand corrected.

I'd say I've got to agree with the Mikester down ol meami way on this , its basically what feels good to the individual player, whats good for one player might not be as good for the next, also back to the point about Clapton & Townsend , these guys no doubt have every mm made to their own spec but also no doubt have a room full of oldies , Townsends Strat has (correct me if I'm wrong) lace sensor Pick-ups plus some other trickery, hardly vintage, and Clapton in any recent show has what looks like shiny new Strat , maybe that old dog "blackie" just cant cut it anymore, for me the money being asked for a good guitar these days, I'd go for shiny new any day of the week, over £2000 for someone elses sweat and whatnot all over my Strat " no thank you mam "

There is an interview with the late, great Roy Buchanon where he talks about getting a vintage instrument or a new instrument, and I pretty much use that as a guideline. To paraphrase what he said, it was something to the extent that while the old stuff is good, sometimes the new stuff is just as good, or better...so I'd just check it out for yourself, let your ears, hands, heart, and mind make the judgement call if you are interested, but personally I just cannot see myself paying what many people ask for vintage instruments, even if I did have the money....
