Hi jackbauer and welcome to the forum. May I invite you to ask your question in the "Modern amplifiers" section and give us a few hints about what you want? Rock, jazz, sound, effects, tone, budget etc. 8)
Claude. :)

Vibrochamp xd.
It doesnt have a headphone socket though it does go quiet enough to play whilst the missus is snoring and still sound good. I love mine, the blues jr is relegated to rehearsal now.

The Gdec's have headphone sockets i think. They could be well worth checking out.

I would say any small amp around 15-30 watts. They have either tube or solid state. Check them all out at a local music shop. Play them.........and pick one you like for the money that you have to spend.

I bought a peavey vyper 15. It has all kinds of effects. Probably more than you will use. I run music off my computer headphone jack into the aux jack and can play along and listen to it on headphones. I keep some weird hours/sleep patterns so I can play as loud as I can stand it at 6:00 am. for another hundred $ or so you can add a foot pedal console. It has a built in wah wah and you can control the frequency of the phase shift. The G-dec also has a lot of features too. Either one is worth looking into. 8)

Get a G-DEC, the drum and bass loops are priceless and worth every penny when you're practicing as you can easily practice pitch and timing.

Apart from that the Roland Cubes sound really great for what they are, and the effects are good. Also the roland cube does a good job simulating certain amps and can thereby help you determine what tube driven powerhouse you should get in the long run(it does a good job simulating the amps, not perfect but close enough)

I still think the Marshall mg's are ok, they are various sizes, got effects, headphone socket and are a good price. Decent practice amp. :D

if volume is not priority
you can even play your electric guitar through CD players
i tried playing through a small Sanyo cd player
the sound is resobaly good for practise
i also discovered i could get real good reverb from my JVC cd/mp3 player
the discovery was just 2 days back
just hold on
hold on and buy the amplifier later
and get a real good one
one that you can rely on
bringing it to pubs for live performance
and you know you can count on it

I use a Roland Cube 20x
has headphone jack, cd/mp/3 in. Power squeezer that drops it to 2watts from 20watts.
some modeling and effects, built in tuner.

But most often I don't use any amp at all to practice.

I still use my first amp, a Marshall VS15R. The reverb alone and "pre-amp" section makes for a really nice practice amp. Too bad they discontinued them. :?
