I was chopping onions in my kitchen this morning, when an errant stroke brought the blade in contact with the tip of the middle finger on my left hand. Stopping the stroke of the knife, I instinctively stuck the finger in my mouth. I thought, "Well, I guess I won't be playing guitar any time soon." But when I finally worked up the courage to inspect the damage, I found that the fingertip had been dented, but not cut. Although it was a sharp knife, the callus was strong enough to save me from harm.

An unexpected advantage to playing the guitar! 8)

I was sewing this patch on for a Halloween costume once, and dropped the needle and couldn't find it. It was stuck in my left 3rd finger.

Do you do anything to condition the callous's? I was told a long time ago that soaking your finger tips in a brine solution like in pickles or spanish olives will toughen up the fingertips.

and no thats not how I came up with the name picklefingers. Its because I have rather fat stubby fingers.

I actually sand mine with an emery board every now and then as the skin gets so rough that I actually hook it on the strings.

rr , bro , an ode to the callus ( and an unexpected advantage to playing a guitar! ) is actually the tenth best ode i've heard all day the other nine i had heard before so in newness your #1 , on the other hand at the very least you made the top ten! thanks bro .

I've been using that mesh you sand spackle with. 150 grit. It doesn't clog up. It knocks them down fast too.
