I was looking at the new Ibanez Art "Les Paul" shaped guitars in a catalog last night. They look a lot like the ESP "Les Paul" shaped guitars with the very sharp lower bouts.

However.

After the defeat of Gibson's lawsuit against Paul Reed Smith's "Single Cut" guitars, I'm wondering why these other makers haven't given their "Les Paul" clones the appropriate shaped lower bout?

It seems that Carvin is now making guitars (solid-body and thin-lines) with the typical Les Paul shape. So why don't ESP, Tokai, and Ibanez, etc, start making them for the US market? I think they could really increase their US sales with guitars that have the "right" Les Paul shape.

Maybe it's just a matter of time, but I sure thought the Japanese makers would jump on it!

O.O it is indeed china. The guitars not bad and certainly beats anything else in its pricerange but isnt without the usuall chinese faults of the odd high fret and poorly cut nut. Nothing that cant be sorted out though.

I'd go for an Epiphone or Dean Evo (higher end model) or Dean Soltero. Each are great guitars and the Dean's are actually much more comfortable than most LP's, plus upper fret access is fantastic. Also, they won't break the bank. :D

Get yourself a Epiphone Les Paul Custom Plus only cost 799.00 and is a great player. Heres a pic of LP Custom Plus sitting with the MIA Tele.

Why not look at a Devlin? They make an LP clone that sounds real sweet...

Devlin? Well that's a new one to me! It looks okay, but I want my lower horn to be rounded and not sharp.

I don't have pics of it but if you are looking for a non Gibson Gibson that is not a Fender family member either, I like the John D'Angelico NYSD madly. Susan Tedeschi plays one. It has the LP look but maybe the sound is not appropriate, you'll have to check it out. Good luck. 8)

Back in the mid 70s my brother had an Electra Les Paul copy that had the lowest action of any guitar I've ever seen, and the pickups were hot as blue blazes. He's still kicking himself for getting rid of that guitar.

Just out of curiosity I just took a look on ebay and there is an Electra Les Paul copy that looks amazingly like the one my brother had. It looks to be in good condition and the bidding is at $225.00 right now. You might consicer taking a look at it. I'm going to email my brother and let him know its out there.

A lot of people like the ESP ECs. I haven't played any, but a friend of mine loves them, a ton of rock and metal bands use them.
