Has anybody out there got any ideas on the best non gibson Les Paul.

It's a long story but if i bought a LP Gibson my mrs would string me up.
I want something with the sound of a LP . Any suggestions?

I would first try a strat or tele with a humbucker. Unless you are looking for the feel of an LP then just get a knockoff. I have a Cort which is pretty but I don't like to play it much. The neck is slanted back and the string length is short with the bridge on a hump. I never remember which is the volume or tone knob and when I'm strumming I hit the pickup selector switch by mistake.

Check out (if you can) the Hagstrom Ultraswede. If I was in the market for an LP, I'd get one of these.

Cheers.

Think Japanese.

Look for a used Orville.

Or a Tokai or Edwards ... what's your budget?
Navigators are very nice and pricey.

Why not take a look at the Gretsch Pro Jet? It's very similar to the Les Paul, but it's made by Fender!

Gretsch guitars have a very distinct sound of their own and are nothing like a Gibson LP.

A decent guitar for not much money. No way is it going to rival the playability of a gibson but the finish is closer to the greeny guitar than the gibson customshop got. Authentic sounds and with a good setup plays good too. They also make a jimmy page model and a clapton fool sg.

What about a Carvin? They have some nice looking carved top single cutaway models, and it's all custom, so you can get whichever pickups, colors, woods you want.

Get an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. They are nice guitars for the money. I have one, but I don't play it much anymore (I got a Gibson since I bought the Epi). I used to play the Epi all the time. Good guitars.

ESP makes some Gibson-looking guitars. Check it out here:

I own an ESP HH series and it looks more like a Strat, but sounds very different. More Gibson-like sound due to the Humbuckers on it. They may be what you are looking for. Play a few and see.

Oh, yeah, the Vintage! That's quite a bargain. Have we discussed where they are made? Was it China?

Look for a Japanese...Orville, Tokai, or an older Epiphone...I have a 1996 which is quite well-made, solid, with really great sustain. Got it on the bay, and it came with a Gibby case. It's the blue one in my signature.
