I've tried and discarded many a distortion pedal looking for that perfect full bluesy sound but havn't quite found one that I like. What is the best blues overdrive or fuzz?

Try a Modtone Dyno Drive. Lot of bang for the buck.

Here is a clip of a shootout with the Boss SD-1 and a Luther Drive.

I tried a number of them one day at GC and settled on the TS-808. Mine's stock but I'm seriously considering sending it off for the Keeley mod.

It was my choice because it gave me more old school OD (as I remember it) than distortion. Since I was looking for a sound similar to what I recall from cranking my 62 Bassman back in the day, the 808 came the closest. If you're looking for a more modern/more "rock"/more distortion sound, the 808 might not be your best solution.

The reason I'm considering the mod is that they say that this will greatly improve the overall sound throughput and they add a true bypass. The end result is a fuller sound, yet you still get the OD effect. This won't change my comments though about if you're looking for vintage OD or something more current.

I have an overdrive pedal from sbnpedals.com, which I love. It's called a Screamin' Eagle, and it has three different overdrive settings (including TS-808) and three different bass boost settings that come in real handy. It's also $75 cheaper than a TS-808, and only $25 more than a TS-9 and it sounds just as good or better.

Bought a TS-808 for the reasons philip did. But I got it directly from Robert Keeley, with the more/less and true bypass mods.

Best OD I've ever heard for what I play. (Mostly Classic Rock and Blues.)

Hey FenderCats-

I use a Marshall Blues Breaker II and I like it. I have a 2000 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe so I also use the drive channels on it- the mix gives me both the boost and the fuzz I want for playing Classic Rock and Hard Edge Blues.-

Hate to sound like a broken record but my best advice would be to try a bunch out at GC (then buy it off Musicians Friend..HEHEHEHE)

You may want to try a Boss BD-2 blues driver. Good old school blues sound.

My son just ordered one this afternoon. He went to try it out at Sam Ash, and ended up finding it for $70 from an Amazon reseller. He also ended up buying a Dunlop 535Q Crybaby at Sam Ash...he took it home and played with it...it was like Chanukah again for him. He says he will now have the 3 pedals he wanted, the 2 above and a Hartman Vintage germanium Fuzz with the Mayer-Hendrix mod.

The Tweed settings on the Vibro Champ XD sound quite good. When I use any other amp, I use a stock Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9. It's a classic for a reason.

The EHX English Muff'n is by far the best overdrive I have ever played, as it uses tubes, rather than emulates them.

Go to www.analogman.com and check out all of his stuff. You can get them modded with the original JRC chips and true bypass. Lots of stuff to choose from. I also use a MIA Big Muff and a Russian one. There's just too much to pick from out there in effects land so listen or try them all and get what you're looking for, Everyone has different taste. I think Hendrix used a Fuzz Face too. Good luck! :)
