Since I bought my bass a few months back, I decided to take Electric Bass 1 at the local college. I didn't really need it considering I took guitar lessons for almost 10 years but, it helps my GPA, and by learning to properly play bass, has improved my guitar playing a lot. Especially with streatching.

So, good on you. :D

Good luck with the lessons Hop,

I was taking lessons for a while there, the dude had me reading music within a week or so. He used the Mel Bay system, it worked for me. But then my life went kinda pear shaped, and everything had to be put on hold. I'm hoping to get back to it soon, apart from anything else, it really was good fun :D

I took piano (forced) lessons when I was about 12. I had to quit when we got up to, "For he's a jolly good fellow" because I had to use both hands. My dissappointed parents told me I would regret it later in life but it didn't turn out that way. I have learned to play piano by ear. Certainly no concert pianist, but I play well enough for my enjoyment.

Don't misunderstand - Lessons (at any age) are the fast track to learning. Knowledge is good!

Snowy, I just have to say that is the most oblique (and amusing) statement I think I have ever heard. Hope you're doing well.

Hi Claude: from what I've seen Hop has indeed found a cool teacher who suits his needs. She certainly appears to know how to hold the guitar in an interesting way.

I just hope he finds the time for a little music, too...

I am 58 and just started Blues Lessons this year. Find an Instructor that will teach the style of music that you want to learn. Once you sit down and play with your instructor he/she will figure out what you need to get where you want to go :D

[Bump!]

Hop, when are you going to put us out of our suspense and reveal that the photograph you posted (elsewhere) was not really of your music teacher?

Or was it??

:D - C
