One of the most un-sung axe men ever. He has the chops and rep, but always seems to hover just under the radar. He has also gone down his own road. If you want a slide, most folks will mention Derek Trucks, but Ry and Sonny Landreth can give him a run for his money on any day. Maybe we need a Ry model Strat.

I hate to admit I haven't heard any of Ry Cooders work, at least to my knowledge. Can someone recommend some of his music to listen to?

Buy the "Mambo Sinuendo" album and be amazed.

Then purchase the sheet music for "Patricia" and have great fun.

Hi flanker35: you can tell you're amongst fans on this thread, can't you?

In addition to JSJH's suggestion the one we've been discussing, Bop Till You Drop, is as good a place to start as any. The track I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine is a charming one to jam along to.

Other good albums include: Chicken Skin Music; Ry Cooder; and Borderline.

He also did some widely admired film music. The album of Paris Texas has some archetypal slide guitar on it. Very atmospheric...

Enjoy - C

The self titled Ry Cooder album is fantastic too, I've been listening to it a lot lately. Check this website out, it list's all of his outstanding work.

Thanks guys. I'm going to check him out. I'd hate to miss out on one of the greats.
