I'm looking at the Fender color chart and I can't see a difference, at least on my computer screen. Could someone who has seen these colors in person tell me the difference between the Chrome and Candy Apple Reds?

Thanks!

Chrome red will have the metallic powder or flake right in the red colour coats.
Candy colours are transparent colours that are shot over top of a metallic base coat. The difference is subtle, but is there in real life.

Some candies are shot over a silver metallic, but the traditional fender candy apple red is shot over a gold metallic, which makes the sparkle pop more in my opinion.

the chrome red likely had silver metallic mixed in the red.

hope this helps.

There is almost a tangible depth to candy apple.

You may get some idea from that photo if you look around the pickup routes its quite a flat colour. As you get to the more visible area's you can see the depth developing.

Yeah, Niki!! great shot. That is what happens when you use a candy(transparent colour,) over a metallic base.

I am sorely tempted to try a lake placid blue (which has the flake in the colour coat,) and also try make a candy blue at the same time. just to see the difference. Might have to go pawnshopping, and see if I can find a couple identical, or close squires.
